Getting started
Your first captions, which videos import, which iPhones work, and whether you need an account.
How do I caption my first video?
- Start a new project and pick a video from your Photos library.
- Choose the spoken language, or leave it on Auto detect, and check the estimated cost.
- Tap Create project. The app uploads the audio track, transcribes it and lays out the captions.
- Fix any words, choose a template and font, then export to Photos.
Which videos can I import?
Videos from your Photos library. Captions Cut is designed around vertical 9:16 clips, the format used by Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
If a video is stored in iCloud, iOS downloads it to your iPhone first, which needs an internet connection and free space.
Which iPhones can use it?
Any iPhone with iOS 18 or later, which means iPhone XS, XR, SE (2nd generation) and newer.
Do I need an account?
No. The app and the web editor both work without one, and there’s no password to make up. If you sign in with Apple or Google (in the app under Settings > Account, on the site under Account), your credits and Pro subscription follow you to the web editor at captionscut.com and to your other devices.
Still need help?
Email us and we’ll get back to you. It helps to include your iPhone model, iOS version and the app version, which is shown at the bottom of Settings in the app.
